Oh Wow!

Check out these sculptures carved from pencil lead--some of them are amazing!

Sarah: Aren't they awesome? I've done microscope work, and it's pretty fiddly andtime consuming--I can't believe this fellow doesn't even use a magnifying glass!

Sarf: *phphtht!* So I'm tragically un-hip. :D

Marjorie: I'm afraid I hadn't even heard of the fellow before. I googled him a bit just now--and I'll warn you that based on what I read, I'm pretty definitely what he would call a "materialist".

Also, regarding tachyons, please keep in mind they've never been detected. Theoreticians have suggested their existence, and experimentalists have gone looking for them, but there's no evidence that tachyons exist.

Marjorie: Sure. I've created a post here where we can discuss it in the comments section.

I have to say, general relativity (which is what you're talking about) isn't my field. I studied condensed matter in graduate school, which is pretty much the other end of the spectrum when it comes to physics.

However, my husband does specialize in GR, so if I can't answer your questions, I can maybe ask him. In those cases, however, it might take me a while to get back to you.
